Bookstore Named Isis Vandalized

Isis Store VandalismFox31, a local Denver tv station, reports that Isis Books & Gifts, a store that has been in operation for 35 years, has been hit by unfriendly fire.

This weekend, someone threw a brick through an “Isis Book & Gifts” sign outside the business. The incident took place just days after the ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility for attacks in Paris.

Karen Charboneau-Harrison, owner of Isis Books & Gifts, said she named her store after the Egyptian goddess Isis.

Charboneau-Harrison said the goddess represents women, healing and magic, and she says it’s a fitting name for a store that features books and gifts from all types of world traditions and spiritual sources. The shelves include Christian, Hindu, Native American and Pagan texts, to name a few.

No suspects have been identified, but the perpetrators were likely ignorant twits who were unable to distinguish between the middle-eastern terrorist organization which had recently murdered 130 people in Paris, and a local bookstore named for an Egyptian goddess.

"We’re all very heartbroken (about the Paris attacks) so I don’t know if somebody walking down the street just saw our name on the sign and kind of lost it for a moment and threw a rock through it,” Charboneau-Harrison told Fox31. “Or if it was an ignorant person who actually thought this was a bookstore for terrorists, I don’t know."

They wouldn’t be the first to make that mistake; AP reports that the store has been vandalized four times over the past year.  A vandal has thrown paint over the windows, shattered the store’s glass door, and rocks have been thrown through the sign.

But in spite of the ongoing vandalism,  Charboneau-Harrison has no plans to change the store’s name. Instead she has invited anyone angered by her store’s sign to visit the store. "They should come in and we can help them with meditation and we can explain to them how they can empower themselves instead of throwing rocks," she told Fox31.

I have a statuette of the goddess Isis on my desk.
Should I be expecting someone to set fire to my hedges any day now?
