Haruki Murakami Novels (Briefly) Sold in Polish Vending Machines

murakamiWhen the Polish translation of Murakami’s Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and the Year of His Pilgrimage came out a couple years ago, the publisher, Muzu, hit upon a unique way to promote the book.

The main character of the novel, Tsukuru Tazaki, works as a train station designer for a Tokyo railway company, so what better way to tie in to the novels than to install vending machines in three Polish train stations where fans could buy the books.

According to the Murakami fan blog which originally posted the photo, the vending machines were installed the day before the book was officially released in Poland.

I couldn’t find any info on how long the machines were left in place, but the odds are good that they were removed a few months later.
