Did You Just Get a New Tablet, eReader, or Smartphone? Download Thousands of Free Audiobooks, eBooks, and Comic Books

4353048269_d77c655500_b Judging by the spike in traffic today, many people have gotten a new mobile device and are looking for content to fill it with.

Whether you got a Kindle, Kobo, iPad, Samsung tablet, or iPhone, these gadgets can get quite pricy, and it can cost even more to stock up on ebooks, audiobooks, and other reading material.

Fortunately, you’re not limited to just the paid sites; there are many sites like Noisetrade that are dedicated to (legally) giving away ebooks and what have you.

For example, there are dozens of sites with free ebooks. This includes all of the major ebookstores, as well as sites which enable hassle-free downloads of DRM-free ebooks. Here are my five favorites.

Or perhaps you prefer digital comics. There are thousands of digital comics, both new and old, which can be downloaded for free. And here are six sites where you can find them.

And if digital comics aren’t your thing, perhaps you would like some audiobooks? Librivox and other sites curate and organize the tens of thousands of free audiobooks you can download. Here’s a list of a dozen sites where you can download DRM-free audiobooks.

Not exactly giving, but lending a vast range of eBooks that are unobtainable elsewhere — the Internet Archive at https://archive.org/. (Which is incidentally just appealing for donations.)

That site deserves a mention, yes, but it’s also worth remembering that many of the files found in the Internet Archive are not well-made.

That’s why I usually don’t mention it.
