Unnamed 6.8″ eReader Clears the FCC
About two months back the Chinese ereader maker Netronix filled FCC paperwork for an unnamed ereader. All the more interesting details like internal photos were concealed under an embargo, but last week that embargo expired.
We still don’t know who this device belongs to, but now we know what we’re looking at.
The E60Q62 is a 6.8″ ereader which has both an infrared and a stylus touchscreen as well as a frontlight (or so the manual suggests).
There’s no word on the software features or OS; the manual is short on details and only tells us that you will be able to use the stylus to take notes.
We don’t even have a complete set of specs from the filing, but according to Netronix’s product listing it runs on a 1GHz Freescale CPU with Wifi and a 1.5Ah battery. The screen resolution is 1440 x 1080, and in terms of storage it has 4GB built-in as well as a microSD card slot. Netronix also said that it weighs 290 grams, and measures 128 mm by 176 mm by 9.7 mm.
While we don’t know who this belongs to, we can rule out Kobo and Barnes & Noble. The latter files its own FCC paperwork, and the former already has a couple ereaders in the pipeline. Also, Kobo ereaders usually carry a model number which references Kobo’s name and follow a particular pattern (NOIKB-xxxxx); this device does not.
The most likely possibility is that this is the same 6.8″ ereader I found at CES 2015. That device sported dual touchscreens and looked essentially identical to the ereader in the above photo.
It has not shown up anywhere in the past 18 months, but this FCC filing offers the hope that this might change.

The "NOIKB" FCCID prefix seems to be associated pretty consistently with Kobo devices.
