Amazon is Hosting a Kindle Discussion at 10am Today.

15608591524_8ee12901ae_bAmazon has long maintained an email account where Kindle users could send suggestions and requests (and someone reads the emails, too). Now the retailer is going to hold a town hall meeting.

On Friday Amazon posted a notice on the Kindle support forums with the news that they are going to be talking to Kindle users today and tomorrow.

Hello Kindle Forum! This is the Kindle e-reader team. We’ll be hosting a discussion here on Monday and Tuesday of next week to give you and others like you the opportunity to share directly with Kindle. We’re looking for your help to provide valuable insight into how we can make our interactions with Kindle customers more meaningful.

We would love for you to join us beginning Monday, July 18th at 7 a.m. PDT here on the Kindle Discussion Forum. During the discussion, we will provide links for all participants to enter giveaways for two Kindle Oasis e-readers as a thank you for sharing your thoughts. Hope you will be able to join us!

The discussion is due to begin in about an hour. Barring technical issues, it is scheduled to run until 11pm (pacific) tonight, and then pick up again Tuesday morning.

When it comes to talking to the public, Amazon is one of the more controlled tech companies. They have scripts for their CS people, and I have been told that all public conversations have to be approved by both marketing and corporate, so it’s going to be interesting to see just how open Amazon will be during the town hall.

Will this be a Reddit-style AMA, or more of a scripted press event?

Let’s tune in and find out.

Reddit style. Here are the first questions:

Why did you decide to purchase a Kindle?
What is your favorite memory while reading on your Kindle? Why was it so special and memorable?
Can you tell us about the first book you read with Kindle?

Okay, so they’re asking questions rather than answering them?

That’s no t so much fun.

Looks like they want advertising material -not feedback
