Amazon’s Next Tablet Clears the FCC

fcc-amazon-tablet-PR53DC-2AETH-1210No sooner had I published a post on curious goings-on with Amazon’s fire tablets than a new model shows up on the FCC website.

AFTV News has discovered new FCC paperwork from a company called Polebridge Port Hole LLC. All of the more interesting details have been obscured, but this listing shows every sign of belonging to Amazon.

The device is described as a tablet, and it carries model number PR53DC and FCC ID 2AETH-1210. It was tested for Wifi and Bluetooth. There’s no sign of a screen size, but there was a mention of a microSD card slot and a camera.

There’s some speculation that because this tablet is the replacement for the $50 Fire (HD 7) tablet, but until we can glean info about the screen size it’s impossible to say for sure. Remember, specs for an 8″ Fire tablet leaked in April, and that could be what we are seeing here.

On the other hand, this might be a completely different device. Fortunately Amazon has a habit of launching a new device within weeks of filing the FCC paperwork, so we won’t have to wait long to find out.

They only recently stopped selling the only decent tablet that they ever produced — the 2014 8.9 hdx — so an updated model of this would be sweet. Not expected, though.
