You Can Now Give Away eBooks From the Google Play Books App & Store

For the longest time Google’s only option for gifting ebooks or other digital content was a gift card for the Play Store(*), but this week they started to fix that.

Google has updated the play Store with a new gifting option. You can now buy and give away ebooks in Google Play Books. According yo yhr help page, the feature has been added to both  the app and the website.

I am still searching for how to gift an ebook from the site, but here’s what you might see in the app:

According to Android Police, the gifting option is almost as well hidden in the app as it is in the website. They found that for some books the gifting option can be found in the same dropdown menu as the buy and read sample option.

Once you’ve selected the ebook to give and bought it, you’ll be prompted to  enter the recipient’s email address.

According to what the help page said last week, gift cards and Google Music subscriptions were the only gifting options in the Play Store. Now Google has added ebooks, and it probably won’t be long before Google also makes this gifting feature available for movies, apps, games, and tv shows.
