Libro.fm Brings Audiobooks to ABA Member Stores

13783003235_6a8095211c_hThe American Booksellers Association has announced a partnership with Libro.fm, an audiobook distributor, which will add the latter’s audiobook platform to IndieCommerce, the ABA’s retail platform for indie bookstores.

Launched in April 2016, Libro.fm is kind of a DRM-free version of Playaway. Both distribute audiobooks, but the latter has DRM and provides branded apps for its clients (including B&N) while the former sells DRM-free audiobooks which can be played almost anywhere, including the Libro.fm app.

Around 160 bookstores currently use Libro.fm.

This partnership will enable ABA members to sell audiobooks through their existing IndieCommerce site just like they would the matching print books or ebooks.

They are thrilled to have the chance. According to Len Vlahos, incoming co-owner of Tattered Cover Book Store in Denver, Colorado, “With digital audiobooks being one of the fastest growing segments of the publishing industry, Tattered Cover was hungry for a solution. Libro.fm is a turnkey, seamless service, which provides our customers with a broad selection of digital audio at competitive prices. The only piece missing was the connection to our website, so the IndieCommerce integration is very welcome news indeed.”

“We created Libro.fm because independent stores were getting left behind in the soaring growth of digital audiobooks, the fastest growing category in publishing,” said Libro.fm CEO Mark Pearson. “The IndieCommerce integration makes it seamless for a bookstore to sell both print and audio editions through their website as well as their Libro.fm co-branded storefront.”
