Pocketbook Aqua 2 – Waterproof, Dust-Proof, $141

Pocketbook released the first waterproof ereader when the Aqua launched in 2014, and now it has updated the Aqua with a higher-resolution screen and frontlight.

The Pocketbook Aqua 2 has a 6″, 1024 x 758 resolution Carta E-ink display with a touchscreen and frontlight. It meets the IP57 standard,  which means it can be submerged in up to a meter of water and also provides some protection from dust and sand.

There’s no card slot, but the Aqua 2 does have 8GB internal storage, a headphone jack, and Wifi.

In terms of software, the Aqua 2  supports Epub and PDF, and you can use Pocketbook’s services to push ebooks to the device over Wifi (or copy them over USB). Once the ebooks are on the Aqua 2, you can read them or have the device read them to you using the built-in Abbyy Lingvo software.

It also plays mp3s, and makes julienne fries.

All in all this is not a bad ereader. It is a much better value than the first Aqua, which was significantly less appealing than the Kobo Aura H2O released a few months later.

The Aqua 2 still isn’t as good as the Aura H2O; its screen is smaller and lower in resolution. But it also costs $54 less. That is an equitable tradeoff.

It would appear, that a Tolino Vision 3 would be a better choice for the same price.
