Buy an eBook from the Windows 10 Bookstore and Microsoft Will give You a $5 Credit

Here’s a special offer for all ten of the people who have Windows 10 and buy ebooks from Microsoft.

Buy any ebook in the Windows 10 between now and 30 June and Microsoft will give you a $5 credit.

According to the fine print, the offer is open to US customers only and can be used once:

Limit 1 per customer. Customer must purchase a book between June 21, 2017 12:01 am ET and June 30, 2017 at 11:59 PM PST from Windows Store. Not valid on prior orders or purchases, or free books; cannot be transferred or otherwise redeemed for cash. Microsoft reserves the right to modify or discontinue offers at any time. Once purchased, an e-mail will follow within ten days with a promotional gift code. You must redeem code by August 15, 2017 and spend within 90 days of redemption. Gift code is valid in the United States only at select Microsoft digital stores for eligible purchases.

The ebooks can only be read in the Edge web browser, and that is only available through Windows 10.

So any ebook you buy would have limited value, but if you find one cheap enough this credit might be worth it.

Do you know if there is any way to download the books purchased from the Windows Store? I’m assuming not from the way you said they could only be read in the Edge browser, but I thought I would ask.

You can probably download them and read them offline, but no, I don’t know of a way to download, say, an Epub ebook and open it with Adobe DE.

That detail is not mentioned in the FAQ.

Hmm. Research project. I will investigate further and report back. I was kind of aimlessly collecting points to convert to a Windows Store gift card, hoping I could use it to buy ebooks, but if I can’t download them to transfer to my Aura One, no dice, even with a $5 credit.

However, ingenuity may be able to find a way. 🙂

Ouch, this sounds like the boardroom that gave us windblows 1.0 all right, it’s almost like they’re trying to see just how much they can get away with (this being typed on a Raspberry Pi 3 as I refused to let them steal my windows 7 license for their '1.0' downgrade and because their 7 updates contain 1.0’s spyware, so that beast stays offline and only gets new things 'side-loaded to it.)

I have one book from the new MS store and it supposedly is drm free but there are issues. Yes the Edge browser does download the book for offline reading and yes with a lot of digging I did find the downloaded file. Now for the issues, the book is encrypted and it appears to be some variation of epub so it can not be decrypted using any of the current tools nor can any other application read it.
