I Am Back Online

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night will stay a postal worker from their rounds, but winds were certainly enough to knock me offline.

Starting yesterday morning, the northern Virginia region was struck by a wind gusts so powerful that they knocked over multiple trees, taking down power lines, internet cables, and even the southbound side of I-95 (which was closed because the supports for a 180-foot tall sign  buckled – it needs to be removed before it falls down).

I lost power around 10 am yesterday, then got it back again for a few hours in the afternoon, and then lost it again at 7pm. Power wasn’t restored until this morning, and I only got internet access again about an hour ago.

I am slowly catching up with missed emails and other work, but I assure that regularly scheduled rantings will continue ASAP.

P.S. Northern Virginia is a special place that offers you your choice of tornadoes, earthquakes, winter blizzards, hurricane strength winds, or blistering summer heat. We usually have at least one of the above in any given year, but rarely more than two of the above. (I do not know why people live here – it is certainly not for the weather.)

Gosh, I had wondered why you hadn’t shot off your big mouth in a while. Knew there had to be a reason! 🙂 Glad to see you’re back online.

That was one heck of a storm! We never lost power for more than 5 minutes but some of our neighbors lost siding and/or shingles. Glad you’re back!

Earthquakes in Virginia?

Nate Hoffelder March 4, 2018 um 1:50 pm

I have been in an earthquake twice in the 16 years I have been here.

Do you remember the one that broke the Washington Monument?

Many people live in Northern VA because of the DC Beltway nearby. Also, the weather gives people something to talk about.

So Frank, how long have you been on the waiting list for a humor transplant?
