Here are a few stories to read this Wednesday morning.
- booksellers rage against showrooming.
- Canadian libraries are objecting to the excessively high prices of ebooks published by the Big 5.
- WPTavern has a guide on how writers can configure WordPress Gutenberg for fewer distractions. They missed a step: getting rid of Gutenberg.
- Electric Lit explores why men keep winning the Bad Sex in Literature award.
- Library closures hurt more than just the reading public.
? What’s wrong with Gutenberg?
It is superfluous for 95% of users, and yet it was forced upon us from above
Nate,
Not so much superfulous but very annoying. The poor editing quality is a real turn off. I’ve found other free ebook sites with far superior editing that make the books readable.
I avoid Gutenberg as much as I can.
My major gripe is how some languages could benefit with far more free books but the publishers or estates death grip is so powerful
Okay, clearly I am going to have to be careful in the future and label stories about WordPress Gutenberg.
I reverse showroom. I often walk into my local bookshop with printouts of the Amazon pages of the books I want to special order.
One day customers such as yourself will realise the damage they are doing to Amazon, to fairly priced affordable books for the customer and to the fair remuneration of authors. Hopefully Amazon will still be around on this day to give customers books they can afford.
@Richard. You are of course entitled to your views. However, the fact that you want to brag about it is to me astonishing. To the like-minded it is simple virtue-signalling. The rest of us just smile and buy more books from Amazon.
