Kindle Firmware Update 5.12.3 Adds Library Badges

Amazon is rolling out another update for its Kindle ereaders, one that includes an announced feature and a few hidden hints about upcoming features.

Kindle update 5.12.3 is available for all Kindles dating back to the Kindle Voyage, and according to the changelog adds:

  • Library Badges: Prime and Kindle Unlimited books in your library are now badged.
  • Performance improvements, bug fixes, and other general enhancements.

I am not sure what that means; do you?

According to an early report from MobileRead, this update also fixes the widows and orphans bug introduced in the previous update. JHowell also reported finding hints in the code of a new K++ feature:

Looking into the new firmware I see an unactivated feature, called KPP or kindle++ internally. It involves a redesigned "Aa" menu.

Strings include: "Some reading options have moved" and "Go to the Aa menu inside a book to find settings including Popular Highlights, Book Mentions and Word Wise."

There’s no word yet on when we will see that feature, obviously, but if you want the library badges, you can go to Amazon.com and download the firmware update for your Kindle model from the Kindle Software Updates page.

How about an update that automatically sets the clock.

How about fixing the delete a book feature that doesn’t.
Or the new difficult 'feature' that hides the "Use this for media" connection.
Or maybe allowing the "blocking and coloring function" to be turned off.
Or allowing just a little bit more room on the margins to HOLD the damn
thing without dialogs boxes popping up all over the screen.

This update is buggy it show the KU badge at first than not show it later. It will allow you to return KU books at times and not at other times. It been like this almost a month already. It is annoying having to get on my computer to return KU books.
