Morning Coffee – 9 December 2019

Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.

  • The AP notes that Amazon is making a lot of money off of ads now that their search results focus on what they are paid to show you rather than what you are interested in.
  • Guy Gonzalez thinks authors should pay as much attention to their publisher’s platform as to their own.
  • The NYTimes wrings its hands over the ridiculous idea that VR will kill books in the next 20 years
  • The financially radical UK govt has closed 800 libraries in the past in the past decade.  (No, they are not financially conservative any more than Republicans are. An FC does not mortgage their own future; only an idiot does that. )
  • A man in Seattle is memorizing Finnegan’s Wake
  • Bad news: Thieves are using bots to steal artwork posted on Twitter, and are pirating that art on t-shirts. Slightly funny (but still bad) news: Artists have found a way to subvert the process.
  • Two male authors are going to have to share the award for "worst sex in diction" this year.
