Dean Wesley Smith’s op-ed presents the worst case scenario for traditional publication and contrasts it with a best case scenario for indie publishing. The piece is full of misstatements of facts about traditional publishing and fanciful assumptions about the supposed benefits of indie publishing, which amounts to a belief in pie in the sky.

Considering that the average case scenario for trad pub is the author not getting published, I don’t think Dean is too far off.

Ah, but those pro-trad-pub never count the slush pile rejects which would drive their real numbers into the ground.

Like I told one joker that thought I should have held out for trad-pub to ‘discover’ me: “If I make a whooping $20 going indie, that $20 beats the heck out of trying to eat rejection slips!” 😉
