Harry Potter Audiobooks Available Through Audible – Narrated by Stephen Fry

harry potterFor the longest time Pottermore has been the sole source of Harry Potter audiobooks and ebooks, but lately financial interests have started to outweigh other factors. Last month enhanced Harry Potter ebooks were released in iBooks, and now the audiobooks are showing up in Audible (and shortly iTunes).

The audiobooks were produced by Pottermore and read by Stephen Fry (in the authentic original global version). Felix von Manteuffel narrates the Germa-language edition, and Jim Dale has been chosen to deny US Harry Potter fans access to Stephen Fry (Dale narrates the North American version).

Andy Gaies, Audible chief content officer, said: “We are thrilled to offer our customers the opportunity to enjoy the Harry Potter audio catalogue seamlessly through the Audible service. J. K. Rowling’s celebrated series is firmly entrenched in the literary pantheon, but when the first Harry Potter novel was released in 1997, smartphones were yet to become the ubiquitous listening devices they are today. Now fans of this bellwether series have an effortless and affordable way to enjoy them in audio.”

The first three audiobooks in the Harry Potter series cost $21 each, and the last four cost $31.49 each (or one credit from an Audible subscription).

The audiobooks are still available through Pottermore, where they cost $30 (for the first three) and $45 (the last four) and can be downloaded as un-DRMed MP3 files.

In short, if you want a DRM-free copy, buy through Pottermore. But if you want a cheaper copy which can be synced with the Kindle ebook, buy it from Audible.

Can someone in U.S. Buy from Potrermore and get the Stephen Fry narrated versions?

Not as default, no. I might be able to trick the site, though.

@Jennifer- I have no idea if this will work for the audible books but it did work on the digital books for my brother sometime in the six months or so.
