Boyue Likebook Mimas Has a 10.3″ Screen (video)

The next ereader from Boyue is going to have a screen the same size as the Sony Digital Paper and the Remarkable.

The Likebook Mimas (model 103D)  features a 10.3″ Carta E-ink display with a resolution of 1872×1404 and a color-shifting frontlight. It is powered by an 8-core RK3368 CPU with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, and runs a version of Android 6.0.

Like other high-end Android devices, it has both Wifi and Bluetooth. While we don’t know the dimensions or its weight, the spec sheet did mention that it is powered by a 4.7Ah battery. There’s also a headphone jack, and a reference in the spec sheet to speakers (that spec sheet was in Chinese, so I’m going to wait for a photo of the speakers before I beleive that detail).

As you can see in the video above, the Likebook Mimas has a stylus. It does also have a capacitive touchscreen. It looks like a great ereader all around, and I would be thrilled if not for the fact that Boyue inflicted a USB-C port on it.

All my other mobile devices have an older style USB port, giving me a strong incentive to avoid devices that do not.

Why the negative comments on USB-C ports compared to the old micro-USB ports? Your review is a matter of personal opinion rather than weighing the pros and cons. This is biased and badly written. 😉

Sadly, they’ve postponed its release until December

This could be a great device, if they’ve improved the software compared to the Likebook Mars. I also don’t agree with the USB-C criticism. Most better tablets and even my almost two years old cellphone have USB-C ports. Compared to the former standard, more power can be deliverd in less time, reducing charge time, besides faster file transfer speed. On top, it fits in both positions, so facilitated handling.

You or someone linked to a Chinese site on another thread about the Mimas and it wasn’t released in China as of a few days ago. Would have been nice to see it on Boyue’s page for 11-11 or even Black Friday. Looks like December or *shudder* later for China as well as the rest of the world.

But with Chinese New Year coming up I shouldn’t be selfish and should think about hong bao for family and Christmas gifts for others… I guess I will be satisfied with my Oasis 2 for awhile longer! But I am really itching to get my hands on something like this! I want something with the temperature changing front light, that I can use to dream journal when I wake up at night and that I can use at work for organizing notes. And something larger for reading is great too! And many of my devices are already USB-C so that isn’t a problem for me.

It looks like the screen isn’t flush. Do you think it will be easy to scratch when writing with the stylus? How do you think we should deal with that? What does it feel like writing on something like this compared with paper?

Criticizing a device for *having* a USB-C port in November of 2018 is probably the dumbest tech-related opinion I’ve read this year. I see you saved the best for last!
