E-Fun Scrapes the Bottom of the Barrel With a "New" $69 Android Tablet

Nextbook Premium 7SE-8GP I am expecting that the average $99 Android tablet this year is going to come with a dual-core CPU, so you would think that there wouldn’t be much of a market for cheaper single core tablet given that they have much the same components, assembly cost, and dsitribution cost as their more expensive brethren.

But it looks like I could be wrong. E-Fun has just released a new 7″ Android tablet and it below anything I have seen before. You can find it now at Walmart for $69.99.

The Nextbook Premium 7SE-8GP (try saying that 3 times fast) is not too different from the better $99 7 inch Android tablets released about this time last year. It’s running Android 4.0 on a1GHz CPU with 1GB of RAM, 8GB Flash storage, and a microSD card slot.

Nextbook Premium 7SE-8GPLike many budget tablets, this tablet doesn’t have much in the way off features It has a g-sensor, HDMI-out, and Wifi. And while there is a front-facing webcam, the resolution is only VGA. And given the price of the tablet the camera is probably of an even lower quality than the resolution would lead you to think.

The screen resolution is 800×480, and the touchscreen is capacitive. That is pretty much what I expected, but if this tablet had offered a resistive touchscreen that too would have been okay. Hopefully the cheaper touchscreen would have been a tradeoff in favor of upgrading some other component to a higher quality.

This tablet is Google-certified, so of course it ships with Google Play. It’s currently selling at Walmart for $69.99, and based on the customer reviews it appears to have originally been released in December 2012.

Wasn’t Walmart selling this same tablet for $99 last year? It has reviews dated from last December. I think they’re just dropping the price now that dual-core tabs are running around $99.
