Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Student Edition Hits Stores & Continues to Disappoint (Video)

A few days ago I reported that Samsung was about to release a tablet bundle deal based on their Tab 2 7.0 Android tablet. This bundle wasn’t supposed to hit store shelves until 19 August, but it seems to have shown up early at some Best Buy stores.

One early adopter picked it up, and in the following unboxing video he confirms that this is a new white Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and that the keyboard and USB adapter accessories are the ones which were already available for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. The retail price was $250.

I’ve watched the video and I still don’t like this bundle. It takes a marginal tablet and combines it with a limited function dock and a limited function USB expander port. Neither accessory does much nor can they work together.

And while Samsung may be calling this a student bundle I don’t think they thought it through. What good is a keyboard dock if you cannot plug other accessories like thumb drives, external DVD drives? Why no card slots? Oh, and I don’t see how this could be a decent alternative to a netbook, not without either a trackpad or mouse. I wonder why they didn’t include a mouse?

Frankly, I think you’d be better off getting a tablet that comes with more ports and then adding either a BT or USB keyboard and mouse. Now that could be useful.

Someone wake me when Samsung makes a useful accessory (which wasn’t copied from Apple). Then I’ll get interested.

This is idiotic. What is copied from Apple? A 7″ tablet? A keyboard? You are a moron.

Nate Hoffelder August 12, 2012 um 8:40 pm

Clearly you don’t know how to read.

I criticize these accessories and then say i want to be notified when Samsung invents a good accessory instead of copying Apple. Where does that imply that these accessories are copied from Apple? That really makes no sense.

It’s pretty clear that I’m heckling Samsung for not being able to create decent accessories on their own. Given that they are infamous for copying Apple I would have thought this was obvious.

Ars Ted August 12, 2012 um 8:53 pm

Oh! You meant how Samsung copied the Rectangle from Apple. Too bad Euclid came up with that first. Moron.

Nate Hoffelder August 12, 2012 um 8:55 pm

No, I’m talking about how Samsung copied the smart cover from Apple:

And there are other examples. It’s almost an industry joke now.

Ars Ted August 12, 2012 um 8:58 pm

That’s not even a Samsumg product. Moron.

Nate Hoffelder August 12, 2012 um 9:06 pm

LOL. You should have read the article:

Although Apple hasn’t detailed its complaint against Samsung, a possible motive could be a smart cover look-alike that was “Samsung certified” back in July. The Galaxy Tab tablet cover was sold in Samsung’s South Korean stores and created by Anymode. Anymode is owned by Youngbo Engineering, headed by the nephew of Samsung chairperson Kun-Hee Lee, according to 9to5Mac.

Not a Samsung product? I literally LOLed at that one. And I’m still giggling.

Ars Ted August 12, 2012 um 9:12 pm

Don’t wet your pants, moron. That’s not a Samsung product. It was made by another company. It’s sad if this is the best you can do to back up your idiotic column.

Nate Hoffelder August 12, 2012 um 9:32 pm

The nephew of the chairman of Samsung copies an Apple product and you don’t think it was an unofficial maneuver of Samsung? Oh gods, I didn’t know I could enjoy baiting a troll as much as I am right now.

Ars Ted August 12, 2012 um 9:42 pm

Um it might be an extremely unofficial maneuver of Samsung, as the product was made by a different company. This does not take away from the point that you are a moron. It’s not a "marginal" tablet–it has similar specs to the latest Nexus tablet. You gave no reason to call it "marginal"–that was just trash talk. And you actually asked what good is a keyboard! Don’t you know what a keyboard is for, you idiot?

Nate Hoffelder August 12, 2012 um 10:06 pm

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has an older and weaker CPU than on the Nexus 7, costs $50 more, and runs an older version of Android than does the Nexus 7. That’s what you think is comparable?

You’re funny. Please stick around. The blog could use a court jester.

Ars Ted August 12, 2012 um 11:08 pm

Moron. You just compared them–of course they are comparable. They are similar products in terms of functionality and performance. Some might prefer the expandability and second camera of the Tab. The larger point is that you are talking out of your ass. Have you figured out what a keyboard is used for yet?

Nate Hoffelder August 12, 2012 um 11:22 pm

Okay now you’re just boring me.

I compared the devices to show one was a lot better, and thus they did not have comparable hardware. (Go look up the other definition of the word comparable, you ignoramus.)

Now I feel much better about the Comments I got about my Android tablet post you picked up. Hahahahaha

Ric Day August 13, 2012 um 12:58 am

Nate, where do you find these people? Funny.

CJJ August 13, 2012 um 8:38 am

Admit it Nate, Ars Ted is a fictional character, a writers device you created to discuss Samsung’s repeated miscues in the tablet world.

Nate Hoffelder August 13, 2012 um 8:46 am

That would be clever, considering that there are people who believe that Mike Cane and I are the same person. A fictional personality invents his own fictional personality? Andy Kaufman and Sasha Baron Cohen would be impressed.

Mike Cane August 13, 2012 um 11:44 am

How the fuck could we ever be the same person? You don’t use the word Fuck here enough.

The Commons August 15, 2012 um 4:52 am

Well, that’s *your * job, isn’t it? If you’re the same person, then he IS using "fuck" plenty!
