Google Docs now supports ZIP, RAR
Google announced new features for a number of their services yesterday, and this was one that fell through the cracks. That’s a pity; I thought it was the most important.
You can now open ZIP and RAR and gDocs will treat them like a folder. It’s not much news but I’m thrilled. I needed the feature.
If you read the announcement, it talks about how Google Docs is so wonderful now that you can read ZIP and RAR. TBH, I never really used Google Docs aside from viewing email attachments, which I almost always opened in gDocs. It might seem a little silly to be excited about this, but the lack of ZIP and RAR was a pain. I’d largely stopped using archives as email attachments. Downloading them just to open and look at a file took too long.
