Google Play Books v3.8 Adds New Search Bar, New Notifications For Favorite Authors, New Icon

google play books iconGoogle rolled out an update for Play Books last week which added a number of visual and functional changes to the app.

To start with, the app has gained a notification option in the settings menu so you can keep up on your favorite authors. And there’s now an option in the settings menu to use the upgraded, more natural sounding voice Google debuted a month ago when Play Books TTS feature is reading books aloud to you.

The changelog also mentions that the search function now remembers past searches. And Google has adjusted the "display settings" menu ("Aa") so that it takes up less screen real estate (it makes the changes easier to see).

There are also subtle changes to the recommendation and reading now lists, and finally, there’s a new icon for the app:

Here’s the changelog:

  • The app has a new icon.
  • Read now highlights your books, and recommendations are easier to browse.
  • Search remembers words you entered in previous searches.
  • A notification now flags the arrival of new books by favorite authors.
  • Changes you make to display options are easier to see.
  • Downloaded books open faster.

You can find the app in Google Play.
