iBookstore Launches in Japan
Apple rolled out a minor update to iBooks today that is going to please their Japanese customers. The new update boasts:
The iBookstore in Japan now has hundreds of thousands of books available for purchase, including fiction, manga, light novels and more.
That comes as no surprise (though the delay is odd); the latest rumors had indicated that the iBookstore was supposed to launch in Japan in January. The app also reportedly has improved support for Asian languages, which have been supported since May 2012.
According to Apple, they have signed deals with several major Japanese publishers, including Kodansha, KADOKAWA, Bungeishunju, Gakken, and Gentosha. The iBookstore is now available in 51 countries. The iBooks app has been downloaded over 130 million times since it launched with the iPad in early 2010.
