Interview: Giulia D’Amico of OLPC Shows Off the XO-4
Charbax (aka the Biggest Camera Geek at CES 2013) has just posted a new video showing OLPC’s latest educational laptop.
Giulia D’Amico is the VP of Business Development at OLPC, and in the following video she unboxes and talks about the all-new XO-4 Touch laptop. This device is running on a new Marvell Armada PXA2128 dual-core 1.2Ghz CPU. It has a 7.5″ screen with an IR touchscreen provided by Neonode.
I’ve shown you this laptop once or twice before, and as you can see below it looks largely identical to previous XO laptop models. About the only visible change is the thicker bezel around the screen and an HDMI port in place of one of the USB ports.
The XO-4 is currently still running OLPC’s Fedora Linux based Sugar learning environment, but OLPC is thinking about porting Sugar to Android. Thus far, OLPC has shipped over 2.8 million laptops to children in schools around the world, and it looks like Australia is going to be the first country to deploy the new model. They have reportedly are going to place orders for over 55 thousand OLPC XO-4 Touch in the months to come.
