It’s Time for Something New (Or, How You Can Hire Me)

2340150187_49e1e1be01_bEarlier this year I announced that I was stepping back from the blog and looking for something new.

Today I would like to announce that I have found it. I am taking my six-plus  years as a web publisher and opening my own web design firm.

It’s called Valiant Chicken Digital. I’ve built the site, ordered the business cards, setup the email, and now I’m ready to announce it to the world.

While there are a lot of people who blog, for the past six years I have been running my own website.

I may have introduced myself as a blogger at conferences, but what I didn’t emphasize was that I was running the site myself. This has given me a breadth of experience few bloggers can match.

I have years of hands on experience in site design, layout, and troubleshooting, as well as 101 other technical skills I picked up along the way.  A lot of that experience is focused on blogs and sites with text, and it has taught me a lot about how, for example, to design a great-looking author site.

And if you need further proof,  I can show why you would want to hire me.

If you head on over to Fiverr you’ll find that I have posted a gig. For $5 I’ll review your site and list the technical, image, and content issues. I’ll tell you how you might improve the site by changing the theme or reorganizing the layout. I’ll highlight the critical issues and the problems you might encounter years down the line.

If you need WordPress or other web design help, let me know.

Selling gig services on Fiverr is an interesting idea.

There are other sites that allow for similar things such like Upwork and Craigslist.

Fiverr is just to get attention. The real work is negotiated directly.

Good luck! Hoping you still find time to do this blog as well; I’ve come to count on your reporting for things related to my work at my public library. I’ve also filed away your business contact info in case I need a web designer in the future. 🙂

The nice thing about this plan, if it works out, is that it will let me keep up on the blog as a hobby.

Good luck, Nate. Happy its worked out for you although I’ll miss your blog. You’ve certainly provided the best independent analysis of the epublishing market I’ve come across.
Live long and prosper!

Ditto, good luck and thanks for the message (I’ve been out of town). The average rate in this area is around $145 per hour if it helps.

Nate, I’ve no doubt you will be great at your new business. I confess to a certain selfishness, though: I hope The Digital Reader stays around too. It’s the first thing I read every morning, and have for several years. I rely on your common sense and good judgment.

And on another note – I totally love the name you chose, and not just because "chicken" is my very favorite funny word.
