Janus 9.7″ Dual-Screen Tablet (LCD + E-ink) Goes up for Pre-Order Tomorrow for $399
It turns out that the Eewrite Epad X I showed you earlier this week may be closer to hitting the market than I had realized.
The folks at Ogagdget, who had previously partnered with Wiskey to sell the Eerwrite Epad, are going to launch a pre-order campaign tomorrow for their version of the Epad X. They’re calling their tablet the Janus, and pricing it at $399. (Regular retail is $699).
That’s a pretty decent price for the hardware. It’s in the same ballpark as the Remarkable and other 10.3″ E-ink devices, only for a device with two screens.
We still don’t know the OS, but Ogadget did reveal some of the specs:
- CPU: MediaTek MT8176 hexa-core
- RAM: 2GB
- Storage: 32GB, microSD card slot
- LCD screen: 9.7″, 2408 x 1536 resolution with capacitive touchscreen
- E-ink screen: 9.7″, 1200 x 825 resolution with Wacom touchscreen
- Camera: 8MP
- Battery: 5 Ah battery
- Connectivity: Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS, optional 4G LTE
- Stereo speakers
What this looks like to me is that someone took a basic tablet and slapped an E-ink screen on the back, and I have to say that I have mixed feelings.
On the one hand, $399 is a decent price, but on the other hand using one of E-ink’s newer 10.3″ screens would add, what, $150 to the price?
I think a $600 tablet with a much higher-res E-ink screen is a better value, don’t you?

what they have to invent because nobody manages to create a decent color reflective screen…
