LibraryThing Launches an Android App
The social book cataloging app LibraryThing released its long-awaited Android app this week (it’s been in the works since before the iPhone app was released in 2015).
The Android app mirrors the features of the LibraryThing iPhone app. Among other activities, you can:
- Browse and search your library overall and by collection.
- Add books, CDs, and DVDs to your catalog by scanning barcodes.
- Add items by searching by title, author, ISBN, etc.
- Browse and upload covers, using your device’s camera.
- Do minor editing, such as adding books to collections and rating them.
LibraryThing is currently giving away free lifetime memberships to anyone who signs in to their existing account from the iOS or Android apps. That membership usually costs $25.
I downloaded the app and signed in, but I doubt I will use it much. LibraryThing is missing the one feature I want most: calibre integration.
I keep my ebooks in calibre, and I would love to use LibraryThing to carry around a mobile listing of my collection but there’s no obvious way to integrate the two services.
Yes, even though these two similar apps are each over a decade old, they do not play well together.
Strange.

Thanks for the info. This is very helpful — with one caveat.
I have been keeping my catalog on librarything for over a decade. (Here’s my profile: https://www.librarything.com/profile/rjnagle ) Really useful for keeping track of which books I actually own. Actually librarything has an extra field called "private" which I use to specify where my book is physically located — which box, room, etc . Up to now I have exported by book list to a spreadsheet onto my phone and tablet which I can consult at book sales/library (i live in fear of buying the same book twice!).
Perhaps I’ve mentioned it before, but one very cool thing about the librarything community is that there is a member giveaway for free copies for reviewers. https://www.librarything.com/er/giveaway/list As a lifetime member (I paid $25 a long time ago), I am allowed to post announcements about book releases. You don’t have to be a paying member to request one of these titles. Unlike Goodreads, Librarything has signups for free ebook review copies.
My main issue with this android app is that it’s useless offline.
