Microsoft eBook Refunds Are Coming in July

When Microsoft announced in April that it was shutting down yet another ebookstore, they told customers that we’d be getting a complete refund and a credit for any notes we made.  On Monday, Microsoft emailed customers who purchased ebooks from its online store, alerting them that refunds will arrive in July.

"The books category closed on April 2, 2019, and Microsoft will begin processing refunds early July 2019," the email began. "Unfortunately, this means that you’ll no longer have access to your current ebooks as of early July 2019, but you’ll get a refund if you paid for your ebook download."

The email included an FAQ which was embedded in images and thus rather difficult to read. Fortunately, that FAQ was also available on the Microsoft website.

The FAQ notes that customers can continue to read the ebooks they’ve purchased until July 2019, after which they will no longer be available, and you will receive a full refund of the original purchase price.

The refunds will be applied to the customer’s original payment method which was used to purchase ebooks. If your original payment method is no longer valid,  you will receive a credit in your Microsoft account for use online in Microsoft Store.

That credit will be good for 5 years.
