Mobiscribe 6.8″ E-ink Notepad is Fully Funded on Indiegogo

That new ereader I found on the FCC website last month has gone up for pre-order on Indiegogo, and it is now fully funded.

The Mobiscribe is a 6.8″ ereader made by Netronix. It id being imported by a startup called TeamUC, who launched an Indiegogo campaign on Thursday with an early bird price of $199. The campaign is now 200% funded, which means it should be able to meet its February ship date.

The Mobiscribe features a 6.8″ Carta E-ink screen with a frontlight. It has both a capacitive and Wacom touchscreen, giving you the option of using either your fingertip or a stylus that supports 096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

This device runs Android 4.4 on a  1GHz Freescale CPU with 512MB RAM and 8GB internal storage. It also has a microSD card slot and wifi, and you can change the color temperature of the frontlight. Weighing in at 230 grams, the Mobiscribe measures 9mm thick and packs in a 1.5Ah battery.

We don’t know anything about the supported file formats, but I can tell you that the Mobiscribe is being heavily promoted as a sketchpad and writing tool with an integrated note taking app.

That’s great, because the Mobiscribe is running a really old version of Android which is going to limit your options for installing apps. No, seriously, my last phone ran Android 4.4, and I had to abandon it because it struggled to run even the Kindle app.

While Netronix does make good hardware, the Mobiscribe is not their best work. Its OS is old, and the CPU and RAM specs are weak. This won’t affect it much as a notepad, but if you want to get maximum bang for your buck, buy something else.
