Do we need to put the Nook iPad app on a milk carton?
You might recall from Monday about the whole reading app massacre, and how Apple forced Amazon, B&N, Kobo, et al to remove the links to their ebookstores.
One of the stranger parts of this tale was the Nook iPad app. It didn’t get updated on Monday; instead it vanished from iTunes. Barnes & Noble told us later that the app would return with an update; it was going to get support for periodicals.
Update: The Nook iPad app is back.
That’s great news, but the app is still missing. We’re now rapidly approaching the end of business day on Friday and there’s no sign of when the app will return.
I’ve checked with B&N and didn’t get a reply. (That’s the norm for B&N, actually.) Does anyone know why the app is still missing? I’d love to hear from you.

I sent them an email too… my very last email that said "ReadWriteWeb media inquiry." Heh. Also no response. Anyhoo, all that I can tell is that they’re revamping the app to include subscriptions (that was a press release from earlier this week, right?) Perhaps it required a longer review. Or perhaps Apple and B&N just wanted to stir up more of these silly speculations about the former buying the latter 🙂

The Nook for iPad app came back online a few hours ago. As mentioned, it now supports magazines and newspapers, has a completely revamped interface (similar to Nook Color) and also claims optimizations and bug fixes. Based on my quick tests, the sync ability is MUCH improved and now syncs instantly with my Nook Color, whereas before the sync might take hours.
