Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Slays With New Trailer (video)
First published in 2009, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a mashup novel which combines Jane Austen’s classic prose with zombies (courtesy of Seth Grahame-Smith). That otherwise incompatible pairing somehow managed to hit best-seller lists, inspire a short-lived genre(*), and even a prequel.
And soon P&P&Z is going to be a movie.
Due out 5 February 2016, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies stars Lily James, Sam Riley, Matt Smith, Lena Headey and Charles Dance. And if the following trailer is any indication, the movie could prove far better than the mashup novel.
In all honesty, I’m not sure that this counts as a mashup – not by movie standards, in any case. This version of Pride and Prejudice is only slightly less true to the book than the 2011 Three Musketeer’s movie. That movie starred Milla Jovovich, and featured blimps and an aerial battle scene over Paris.
Compared to that, what are a few zombies?
* A reader has reminded me that, when it comes to fanfic, P&P had previously been mashed up a hundred different ways; the only thing that sets P&P&G apart was that it was published by a mainstream publisher. Thanks,Daniel!

There are all kinds of mashups of Pride and Prejudice, including erotic mashups to burn up a Kindle.

True. A lot of them predate this one, don’t they?
I should note this in the post. Thanks!

It’s Buffy the Zombie Slayer! With Doctor Who. (That was Matt Smith, wasn’t it?) I find myself surprisingly interested in this.

It is intriguing, isn’t it?
I was prepared to point my finger and snicker, but I’m actually looking forward to this movie.
