Sargent Promoted in Holtzbrinck Reshuffling
Macmillan CEO John Sargent is getting his justly deserved reward/punishment for his role in the 2010 ebook price fixing conspiracy: he’s being promoted.
The Bookseller and PW are reporting that Macmillan’s parent company, Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, is going through a reorganization, and Sargent is being promoted:
Sargent, who has overseen the global trade group (Macmillan Publishers), has been named executive v-p of Holtzbrinck and will now oversee the company’s higher education business while continuing to run global trade. He will report to the group CEO, Stefan von Holtzbrinck.
In related news, the managing director of Holtzbrinck Digital, Markus Schunk, is going to take on the responsibility for the digital business units. Volker Smid, the former head of digital and technologies at Holtzbrinck, is taking a new position in charge of one of Holtzbrinck’s digital companies (they have not named it yet).
The responsibilities of the Holtzbrinck board members Jens Schwanewedel (CFO and deputy CEO), and Michael Brockhaus (head of strategy, M&A and Holtzbrinck Ventures), will remain unchanged after the merger, The Bookseller reports.
