The Digital Reader Will be Liveblogging the Amazon Event on Thursday

This is just a quick note to let everyone know that I am still on to cover the Kindle Fire 2 unveiling on Thursday.

I’m planning to use a new WordPress plugin to do the liveblogging, and since it was just released today I’d like to play with it for a bit. That requires a new post, and so that requires a new post to play with. While this might seem like a small thing, this plugin is supposed to letme simply type in an update .

Edit: And the plugin doesn’t seem to want to work.

Update: Okay, now it seems to be working – sorta.

I’ve started to use simple Twitter embedding on my website every time I want to do liveblogs. The plugins and other solutions all have some sort of problem. By embedding Twitter I just update from a native app on my Mac and everything runs smoothly. Hope that helps. Will tune in on Thusrday for the event. What time does it start?

It starts officially at 10am pacific, but I’m hoping there will be leaks before hand.

Oh oh, my invite says, 10:30 am, Nate.

Maybe they’re hoping I’ll miss most of it 🙂

Or maybe I have the time wrong.

Best of luck with your Kindle coverage, Nate, Andrys and others.

A little off-topic – but the E Ink Kindle will be of special interest to me if it actually materializes with the glow feature and lives up to the other ballyhoo, and I hope you’ll be generous with the details.

For reading while walking around inside the halls of my building, this one could be ideal. It’ll weigh much less than LCD tablets.

Granted, tablets are stealing market shares from dedicated readers, but I’d certainly regret the demise of the latter. I don’t think it’ll happen tomorrow. Eventually, however, due to improved E Ink screens or the equivalent, as well as improvements in other components, it will. By then, who’ll really care?

Now if I could just access Amazon’s secret page I know must be out there..

Nate Hoffelder 4 September, 2012 um 7:12 pm

I’m keeping an eye on a few secret pages. Nothing yet.

Oh I hope you share if you find something Nate! My K3 is ready for an upgrade.. (maybe)

Too true. They normally go up ahead of time but by now they know there are dozens of us watching. Maybe they’ll transmit a different one to each of us. 🙂

I do use my tablets a bit more than I use the e-Ink but when I go back to the e-Ink (more often lately), it is such a relief on the eyes and so light too. Most days the e-Ink is the one in my purse, as I can do the web with the smartphone.
