OverDrive to Get Harry Potter eBooks on Thursday

This is just a brief note to let you know that OverDrive sent out an email a few minutes ago to their library partners. All 7 HP ebooks are available for pre-order now, and you'll be able to check them out on Thursday.

Dear Library Partner,

We are excited to announce that the complete works of Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling will be made available for checkout beginning Thursday, March 29 at 9:00 AM US Eastern Time. In preparation for the go-live date, pre-order capability has been restored in Content Reserve effective immediately. To celebrate this momentous occasion, the special 10% discount on all Harry Potter titles has been extended through April 30, 2012.

Any previous holds placed on Harry Potter titles will be honored and patron/student waiting list queues will remain the same.

Harry Potter digital books will be available for reading in EPUB eBook format (and Kindle® in the US) and MP3 audiobook format. For each unit purchased for your digital collection, there will be a 5-year term from the date the unit is made available for checkout.

Well, that was faster than I expected.

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."

  1. Cool. My libraries web site had them listed as available April 30th, so I just went and checked again and now it says March 30th.
