The Time Traveler’s Wife is Now Available as an eBook

The Time Traveler's Wife is Now Available as an eBook eBookstore Leading ebookstore Zola Books announced this morning that they have finally released The Time Traveler's Wife, a classic SF novel by Audrey Niffenegger, as an ebook. This book was originally published in paper in 2003, and was supposed to have been published as an ebook in October 2012.

Better late than never, I suppose.

The ebook is available exclusively from Zola Books and is priced $8.99, and includes the original novel as well as 25 new pages from an upcoming sequel. Considering that this is a 10 year old book that is a rather steep price, but on the upside it is DRM-free which means you can read it on whichever device you prefer.

Update: This ebook is supposed to be available now, but I just tried to buy and download a copy. I couldn't even read it in the Zola iPad app, much less download a copy to my computer. So much for being able to read it on any device you like.

The Time Traveler's Wife is the story of art student Clare Abshire and librarian Henry DeTamble, who meet when he is twenty-eight and she is twenty. Though Henry has never met Clare before, Clare has known Henry since she was six – impossible but true, because Henry finds himself periodically displaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. Henry and Clare's attempts to live a normal life together are threatened by a force they can neither prevent nor control, making their love story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

Zola Books launched in July 2012 with the claim that it was going to going to Replace Google Books, Then Take on Amazon. In addition to offering exclusive content, Zola Books planned to launch an affiliate network and become a major ebookstore by the end of 2013:

The company has ambitious plans, said Regal, the founder and CEO. It hopes to recruit 350 independent bookstores to its cause by the end of the year – the same amount that Google recruited to its re-seller program – a feat it hopes to accomplish by offering those bookstores that join Zola on an exclusive basis equity in the company. He wouldn’t say how much equity but indicated it wouldn’t be insignificant.

Other goals include capturing 1% of the e-book market in the U.S. by the end of next year and becoming the No. 1 e-bookseller in the U.S. in five-to-ten years, according to Regal.

As of June 2013 Zola Books carried around 50 thousand titles and had 5 thousand registered users. This ebookstore currently offers its own iPad and iPhone app.
