Calvin & Hobbes Now Available as eBooks
If you love Calvin, Susie, Mrs. Wormwood, Spaceman Spiff, Hobbes and the rest of the C&H cast of characters then I have some good news for you. Bill Watterson’s classic comic strip Calvin & Hobbes is (legally) available as an ebook for the first time ever.
Calvin and his stuffed tiger companion have conquered many a world during their 10 year run as a daily comic strip, and now they get to face a new one: ebooks. Andrews McMeel Publishing has reissued 3 collections of strips as ebooks, and you can find them in the Kindle Store, iBooks, Nook Store, and elsewhere. The available titles include:
- The Essential Calvin & Hobbes
- The Indispensable Calvin & Hobbes
- The Authoritative Calvin & Hobbes
The files weigh in at a hefty 150MB plus each (in the Kindle Store), so you might need to make room on your ereader before downloading them. The list price is $12.99, but Amazon has one title on sale and B&N has all 3 titles marked down to $10.99.
P.S. If you’re wondering just which strips from Calvin & Hobbes' 10 year run are included in these ebooks, I checked the relevant Wikipedia entry and the list of published books indicated that these are the first 3 omnibus collections. They include most of the strips published between 1985 and 1992. This is a nearly complete set for the comic strip, which ran until 1995.
