10 sites for creating digital newspapers

I came across an interesting list on one of the blogs I follow. They found 10 sites that will help you create and or distribute a digital newspaper.  (It’s worth noting that I’m using a pretty broad definition of newspaper here.)

  1. Issuu – One of the most popular and successful online digital magazine creators/publishers around, with a very nice user interface.
  2. Yudu – Upload a document or PDF to create an online magazine that can be emailed our or embedded into a site.
  3. Openzine – Very user friendly site with an abundance of templates and layouts to create a professional-looking magazine and share online.
  4. NewsCred – Create a terrific looking online newspaper in 5 minutes, similar to Openzine.
  5. Scribd – A very popular Web 2.0 site for creating online content and publishing.
  6. Fodey – A fun site to create a newspaper and then download to print out or put on a blog or site.
  7. Zinepal – A great way to bring the news to students by "clipping" online articles. This is a wonderful site for those making the move to ebook readers.
  8. Paper.li – A fantastic site to turn Twitter into an online readable magazine.
  9. Crayon – Create a professional-looking newspaper with this nice online creator. There are several options to choose from, so it has a bit of a higher learning curve.
  10. Mygazines

P.S. Can anyone add to the list? I’d like to see how long it can get.

This post is really good, however you guys missed some of the biggest providers of this kind of technology, like http://www.mygazines.com.

If you could add it, that would be great. They offer dedicated solutions for newspapers.

Thanks! 🙂

Nice post and I have often used Newscred. The best part of it is its so simple to use. Your news not only have to be rich but also very presentable with proper breaks.

I have also used www.bulletlink.com and found that it too was good. I wish they come up with a free version as well. Allthesame, good one.

Cheers.

The site glogster.com is also a great site if one just needs to make a poster. With a little creativity and effort, one can make a front page of a newspaper with it. Can add on animations, pictures, and text. Also can look at other people’s creations and "borrow" their ideas.

I am looking for a template that includes a mobile version and an app in addition to the website – I can pay some, just not $100 plus per month until we launch. Suggestions?

You might want to remove or put up a warning about: http://guzzle.it/. I showed your list to my high school kids to make a news paper. It is a fetish site now. So not good.

Whoops. Thanks for the warning.

Lions Light (www.lionslight.com) will set up a very full featured newspaper website for $0 in setup fees. You get features like; Classifieds, business directory, a metered and non-metered paywall that work together, slideshows, videos in stories and slideshows, the ability to sync your online subscriber database with Interlink or whatever subs database you use (so you don’t have to keep the 2 databases in sync manually), a store, rotating ad feature, shopping cart, RSS feed, sitemap for stories/classifieds/directory, a backup feature, hosting on Amazon servers, etc. It’s VERY comprehensive, thus not free, but a very good and extremely affordable solution for newspapers, magazines, and online-only pubs.
