These images belong on a milk cartonKobo has put out a press release today, announcing the news that they have signed a new retail partner in yet another market.National Book Store, the Philippines' largest office supply / bookstore chain, will soon be carrying Kobo's ereaders and tablets. The hardware is going to be available at a select number of National Book Store's 120 plus locations as well as online at www.nationalbookstore.com. The chain will also be selling Kobo ebooks on their website (here), just as soon as the site is set up.

There's no mention of when National Book Store will get Kobo's new hardware, but Kobo has shared details on the local price for last year's models. The Kobo Touch will be selling for 4,599 Philippine pesos (~$105 USD), while the Kobo Glo will retail for 6,599 Philippine pesos (~$151 USD) and the Kobo Arc will sell for 9,149 Philippine pesos (~$209 USD).

There's no mention of the Kobo Mini, which suggests that this model won't be distributed locally in the Philippines.

It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."

  1. That’s good to hear. The Philippines is a tech savvy and tech hungry market of about 100 million people. English is one of two official languages — that’s a lot of readers and a market that is often overlooked. The relatively low-cost Kobo could sell well there. National Bookstore, according to one friend familiar with Manila, says they are “everywhere”. Sounds like a solid partner.
