My Kindle Fire is Shipping Today
I’m sure you heard the news that Amazon are shipping the Kindle Fire today. Amazon have been sending emails to buyers with the good news, and they also put out a press release. I got a confirmation this morning and my unit will be arriving tomorrow. I’m planning to post a first impressions tomorrow evening and I’d like some help.
One key concern about the Kindle Fire is whether int can install third party apps ad which ones will work. Now, we know that it ships with the Amazon Appstore, but no one knows for sure yet if apps found elsewhere will work the way they’re supposed to.
So here’s where you come in. Do you have an app you’d like me to try? Leave a comment and I"ll try it. You might also want to include a link to where I can find it; some apps are only hosted on their n project pages and there’s no guarantee that I know where that is.
I’m not expecting any serious issue, but remember, the Kindle Fire runs on a branched version of Android v2.3 Gingerbread. Amazon may have tweaked something that breaks specific apps. It wouldn’t be the first time that a problem is only revealed by a specific app; my hacked Sony Reader Wifi still won’t run some games no matter what I do with it.

I have already passed judgment on the Kindle Fire.
Verdict: Respectable 1st generation device, but I would rather have a Nook Tablet.

I know Kobo and aldiko are in the Amazon App store and I’m curious if they will show up on the Fire’s App store. And like many others who rooted their nook to install Kindle, I have to know of the Nook App will install on the Fire, Nate..
I’m waiting for mine to but it still says shipping soon so I have to live through what you find out.. 🙂

It would be a little disingenuous of Amazon to do this, since their app has to be installed as a 3rd party app on all Android devices now.

How about the latest Kindle for Android app? 🙂
(Just to see if the built-in is any different.)

I’d also like to know if the Kindle Fire index’s your library like the Kindle Keyboard so you can do phrase searches across all your books. Nook Color only lets you phrase search in the book you have open. I’m also interested to know if the K Touch still has this feature.
