Leaked Diagram Reveals iPad Pro to be 7mm Thin, Weigh 700 Grams

A very plausible diagram turned up this weekend which appears to show Apple's upcoming iPad Pro tablet, but this blogger remains unconvinced. The diagram was reportedly leaked on the Chinese social networking site Weibo, and if it is real then  this tablet is going to be thinner than I expected and have a thicker bezel.

ipad-plus[1]

According to the leakster, the iPad Plus is going to sport a 12.9" screen with a 2k (2048 × 1536  or higher) resolution. The leak confirms the expected 4 speakers, and it also told us that the iPad Plus would fit an 11Ah battery into a shell which is only 7mm thin.

And oh yes, we had the name wrong on the tablet; this is not the iPad Pro.

I don't know that I believe this rumor, but it does come with a number of other plausible details, including that the iPad Mini 3 will be retired in favor of a new model later this year. There's also supposed to be 3 iPhone models, suggesting that Apple is going to bring back the 4" iPhone as a compliment to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6+, which have 4.7" and 5.5" screens.

All of those details are plausible, but I can't say for sure that this is a leak and not someone's idea of a practical joke.

And so I'm posting this not as news but so I can log it and check back later to see if it comes true.

Would anyone care to lay odds?

  1. Not implausible.
There has been talk of pen support, no?
Well, at that screen size and thickess the bigger bezel might be necessary to get a good one-handed grip, to carry the battery, and to provide room for the pen digitizer and a storage silo for the pen.

That said, it would require Apple to give up their oh-so-valuable trade dress aesthetic and set Jobs spinning like a turbine. I doubt they’d give up looks for mere functionality.

    So, no.
I go thumbs down on both the look and the pen.
