Author Tool: Amazon Associates Link Builder Plugin
Between building websites for authors and running a new blog I try to stay on top of useful WP plugins. Here’s one which hasn’t gotten a lot of attention yet.
At the beginning of last month Amazon released its official affiliate plugin. The Amazon Associates Link Builder plugin for WordPress is intended to make it easier to find and link to merchandise on Amazon:
The plugin enables you to search for products in the Amazon catalog, access real-time price and availability information, and easily create links in your posts to products on Amazon.com. You will be able to generate text links, create custom ad units, or take advantage of out-of-the-box widgets that we’ve designed and included with the plugin.
The features of the Link Builder plugin include:
- Amazon’s product catalogue search built directly into the WordPress editor
- Product link posting via shortcode
- Four, pre-built ad templates including multi-product options
- Responsive ad sizes as well as fixed, custom sizes
- Custom ad template options
- Ad performance tracking
In general terms, what this plugin does is let website owners create links to Amazon. If someone clicks on the link, and then buys something, whoever made the link will earn a commission on the sale.
Okay, it’s more complicated than that (and so is the plugin) but that is the general principle. This plugin helps websites generate passive income without annoying their visitors.
Most authors don’t get enough website traffic to really benefit from affiliate links, but any author who blogs regularly should consider plugins like this one. And there are a lot of options out there; here’s three, and here’s another four, – and that was just on the first website I found.
Do you use any affiliate plugins on your site? Can you recommend a good one?
P.S. Speaking of plugins, you should also consider Skimlinks; it is more of a general purpose affiliate plugin which automatically inserts links.
