Kindle Flame to Ship This Month, Has Liquavista Screen
When Amazon bought the Liquavista in early 2013, I hoped that it meant that we would one day see Liquavista’s electrowetting screen tech in the Kindle.
Now it’s finally happening. Meet the Kindle Flame (at right).
Edit: This post was and is a 1 April joke, but it has rapidly become less a joke than a prediction. Here’s the latest info on the new Kindle (one, two, three, four, five).
An inside source at Amazon shared the above photo with me, and they also told me that later this month the retailer will be launching the Kindle Flame, its next and best Kindle. Equipped with Wifi, Bluetooth, and 3G, the Kindle Flame will combine the best aspects of Amazon’s Kindle ereaders and the Fire tablets.
I’m told the Kindle Flame will run Android, and ship with a case which has its own battery (no word on whether there’s a light, or a keyboard built-in). I have no info on price, but I can report that when it goes live you will find it at www.kindleflame.com.
And most importantly, the Kindle Flame will have a Liquavista screen. This screen won’t be nearly as pretty as the screens on the Fire tablets, but it will be in color, and it will refresh at a rate faster than one of the E-ink screens found on the other Kindle models.
The Kindle Flame’s screen will also be relatively low-powered, compared to your average LCD screen, which means it should have battery life on par with the Kindle Voyage (here’s hoping, anyway).
But in all honesty, we won’t know that for certain until the Kindle Flame launches later this month.
Stay tuned.
P.S. April Fools.

mummm I wonder why you kidding with this now… behind every joke there is some truth.
Do you know something that we 're hiding? 😉

Well, I had been toying with the idea since those Kindle rumors last November. I almost leaked it as a hoax.
But the following is not a joke:
Yes, I had heard that new Amazon hardware is coming this month. I heard that it has BT, Wifi, 3G, as well as a battery case. But that’s all I know so far.

With those three things, it seems like a smartphone. I hope Amazon learned to stay away from those.

3g sounds like another reader or tablet.
Kindle Flame was a good one, I was ready to pre-order the new tablet/reader and check out the new screen tech. I think the reader sales have suffered because their is no colored (a good one) reader yet. I thought we would have one within three years of the original kindle being released.

Nas-teee!
Had just they right mix of WTF and plausibility.
(Right up to the "runs android" part. Should’ve said FireOS Bellini.)
Good one, though.

I don’t know enough about Kindles (I’ve never had one, don’t expect to get one) to know I should have caught the joke. :\ Maybe if you had added it has an SDHC card slot, a phenomenal (easily interchangeable) battery life, a low price for first-Kindle buyers, no need for wifi, and, um, can change the kitty litter and wash dishes, the final paragraph would have made me face palm.

What? Amazon innovate? Hahahahah!
Chris Meadows April 1, 2016 um 9:54 am
I don’t know why it is, but the most interesting things seem to happen on this day every year. I heard that the Authors Guild and Authors United have finally stopped pretending and admitted they just don’t like innovation.
(Seriously: Good one, Nate. Though as mentioned above, you did overplay it a little with the "runs Android" bit. 🙂 )

wait, wait, wait …
Didn’t you used to hate jokes like this?
Chris Meadows April 1, 2016 um 10:43 am
I hate jokes that are not so patently ridiculous that you immediately notice they’re jokes. Too many people think that’s how you’re supposed to be funny.

knew it was joke right from the headline.. still hate you 🙁

Today Liquavista has launched new website.
There are no job offers for that company anymore.
So I deduce that the launch of the Kindle Electrowetting is inmminet.
September or October… maybe in November coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the Kindle.
Do not forget to name me when my prediction is fulfilled 😉
