Amazon Tablet rumors coming fast & furious
Digitimes is back again with even more rumors about Amazon’s mythical tablet.
The rumor this time around is that Foxconn will be making a 10″ tablet for Amazon, and it’s going to ship in 2012. also repeated the months old rumor about Quanta making a 7″ tablet for Amazon (here).
Note that there’s really no evidence to support this other than the word of 1 website. Also, it contradicts yesterday’s WSJ rumor about a 9″ Android tablet, so I would take both with a grain of salt.
At this point I’m probably the last person on the planet that doesn’t believe in the Amazon tablet. If you can see what I see, you might understand why.
I’m looking at all these rumors right now (they’re all open in tabs), and when taken as a whole they remind me of something: the pre-iPad Apple tablet frenzy. I’m not talking about the last 4 months or so before the iPad launched; I’m reminded of the 6 or more years of rumor, speculation, and tech blogger obsession.
You might be thinking that the iPad did get released, which is true. But there were also at least 4 other rumored launch dates for the Apple tablet as well as 3 other manufacturing partners and a couple "leaked" designs. They all turned out to be myths. That’s what I’m afraid we’re seeing here.
And yes, I do think the Amazon tablet frenzy is getting to be the size where it now generates rumors for its own sake. That’s why I don’t believe any of them.

All rumor posts on all sites should have to use a unicorn illustration from now on.

That’s my plan.

Digitimes is a very erratic source; without "triangulation" with other sources I generally dismiss their reports.
Not so the Wall Street Journal and Stu Woo who covers this sector specifically. With Amazon about to host its Q2 earnings results (July 26), it’s hard to believe WSJ is going way out on a limb.

Nate should have to post a picture of himself riding a unicorn when the Atab is announced. And I mean riding — get yer mind out of that gutter.
