31 Japanese publishers launch digital publisher’s association

From The Mainichi Daily News:

Thirty-one publishers in Japan, including giants Kodansha and Shinchosha, launched an electronic book publishers association on Wednesday, responding to gaining momentum in the electronic publishing industry.

Members of the new organization, the Electronic Book Publishers Association of Japan, will research and collect information on the industry. The move comes ahead of the anticipated release of a Japanese version of Amazon's Kindle wireless reading device, which sparked an e-book boom in the United States, as early as this year.

The association was created under the Denshi Bunko Shuppansha-kai organization that operates "Denshi Bunko Paburi," an electronic book retail site founded by 13 companies in 2000.

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
