SolidFX announces 2 new e-readers!

As you can see from the picture, they're not actually new. Instead, SolidFX will be loading their flightplan app on the latest Irex ereaders. The FX10 is based on the Irex DR1000 and the FX8 is based on the DR800SG. SolidFX is offering the FX8 both with and without the 3G connection. Please take a moment and look at the picture.  The hand looks much to big, IMO. Is it just me, or does that look photoshopped?

They're being marketed to pilots as chart readers. They come with reader software that supports the Jeppeson chart format. But they also come with the original Epub and PDF support, and from what I can tell, they're not locked down. You should be able to install other apps (like FBReader).

The list price is $1,195 for the DX8 and $1,595 for the DX10. Yes, that is indeed $800 more that the retail versions.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader:"I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
