New uses for the original Kindle cover

I found something rather interesting that I'd like to share. I've found 3 devices now that can use the cover for the original Kindle.

About a month ago CarlyZ posted over at Gear Diary that her Camangi Webstation happened to fit her old Kindle cover. She's like me; we don't throw anything out.

Then, about a week later, one MR member posted a picture showing his PB 302 in the cover.

And about a week ago I discovered that my Nook fit the cover as well.

I don't think it's a coincidence, but that all 4 devices were designed to fit an ideal dimension. I'm sure some will say that the biggest influence on the device designs were the screen, not some hypothetical ideal. Okay, but that doesn't explain why the PB302 fits so well. There is a lot of extra case below the screen that could have been removed. Nor does it explain why the margin around the Webstation screen is just right.

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
