Ebooks top USA Today’s (weekly) Bestseller’s List

Do you see that one extra word in the title? It changes everything.

I first heard about this story through a couple of the ebook blogs I follow. One  missed that one little detail, and I wanted to make sure you caught it. After you think about it for a few minutes you should realize that this news doesn't really tell us anything that the ebookstore sales announcements hadn't already told us last week.

Millions of gift-wrapped iPads, Kindles, Nooks and other digital reading devices resulted in an unprecedented surge in sales of e-books last week.

USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list, to be published Thursday, will show digital's new popularity: E-book versions of the top six books outsold the print versions last week. And of the top 50, 19 had higher e-book than print sales.

It's the first time the top-50 list has had more than two titles in which the e-version outsold print.

There was a bumper sale of ebooks in the week after Christmas. That's all.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader:"I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
