Turn your Dell Mini into a Chromebook

Don't want to wait for the official Chromebook to hit the market next month? Here's some good news for you.

Dell have just released a new custom version of Chrome that has been tailored for the Dell Mini. I believe this is their third or fourth release, not first. That's good; I wouldn't want to use the first one. No hard feelings, but I want to wait for the bugs to be worked out.

So has anyone tried to install this on other Dell hardware? What about non-Dell devices?

  1. Before you do that, you might want to install Chromium in a VirtualBox and live with it full-screen for a while. I’m still not sure how comfortable I’d be with no access to the machine at all…no terminal window, no access to the local storage, no way of telling what’s being put on my drives, no tools at all. I may just be too old for this, but I’m not sure that I’m that trusting yet.
