New Android reading app launched at BEA

Mobile Systems, a productivity app maker, are here at BEA with their new reading app,UB Reader. I first came across this on Tuesday but I didn't cover it because I didn't believe it was really new. It is. I can't find that anyone has covered it before.

In fact, it's so new that the site isn't even done.

This is an Android app, and you can get it from the UB Reader website. It's actually not in the Android Market yet. It's using a proprietary form of DRM and is tied to its own ebookstore. Price are rather expensive, and the fiction and SF selection is rather thin. Right now it looks like the only publishers signed with UB Reader are technical and academic publishers.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."

  1. Why mention this reader app. It appears that you can only read books that were purchased at their store. I have not proceeded beyond the register account page, so maybe I am missing something?
