Slick WebSurfer Android tablet makes brief appearance at Walgreens, then vanishes

As I was writing up the Slick ER-701 post today I was inspired to check for any new info on the Websurfer Android tablets, one of Southern Telecom's other product lines. It turns out that a 7" model showed up briefly at Walgreens back in late May. I missed it at the time and it seems to have vanished since then.

No one is selling it now, but I found the product page in the Google Cache, and I found a 2 month old discussion on It doesn't seem to be such a bad tablet. I'm not sure it's worth $130, but I would have liked to get my hands on it.

Here are the specs from the product page:

  • Android 2.2
  • CPU: 800 MHz
  • 7" touch screen
  • Wifi (n)
  • 2GB Flash storage
  • microSD card slot
  • Stereo speakers
  • HDMI connection
  • USB Host

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
