Ink, Bits, & Pixels

... is a tech blog focused on ebooks and digital reading which also covers general tech news and important topics. It was launched in January 2010 as The Digital Reader, and was renamed on its 5th anniversary. Here's why.

What We Cover

This has grown into a news, review, & opinion blog. I cannot help but have opinions; it comes from writing the reviews. Even when I'm just reporting on news I will try to put it in perspective and this will often be influenced by my personal opinion.

Who We Are

Nate Hoffelder, General Editor and Malcontent at Large - This is me. I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there.

Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog.

  1. Good site. If someone has info/gossip/tips on something of interest for you, do you have a contact address to send it to? (Sorry, I know there is a spam risk.)

  2. Great web site, guys. One suggestion: tried to share your blog on Twitter this morning and had to cut and past to get it to post. Can you create a one-step click on Twitter, Facebook, etc in order to share your blogs? Thanks.

  3. I’m delighted to tell you this site is the newest bookmark in my “must-read” collection. Your opinions are solid and well-expressed, and your writing sings. Congrats all the way around.

  4. Thanks Nate! I read your site everyday and thinking about contributing somehow. Do you guys accept donations via paypal? Keep up the great work!

  5. Nate, I teach Journalism at Miami of Ohio. My Jrn 101 students will follow your blog as part of one assignment — starting the end of July. Is there any particular event (like the release of new products or a major conference) the end of July or early August?

  6. Hey Nate,

I really enjoy The Digital Readers and since it seems you cover everything ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing, I thought you’d like to know about Booktrack. We bring music and sound to the written word. Across all digital reading and writing platforms, our cutting-edge technology introduces a cinematic experience to e-books. And, for the first time, ANYONE can access our audio library of over 20,000 soundtracks, ambient audio and sound effects to create and then publish any length booktracked story.

I can’t help but think you’d be intrigued with our technology and self-publishing platform. I’d be delighted to hop on the phone and/or supply you with additional information. We just launched last month and it’s early days but we’re already witnessing some great uptake and user adoption.

Look forward to hearing from you and thanks for your time. Keep up the great work.
